The good, the bad, and the ugly
This is a mini-update on the good, the bad, and the ugly of the last few days.
The good
More people appear to be getting into Compromised, which makes me relax a bit. A wonderful reader reached out to tell me it was their favourite of the two, which helped immensely.
The bad
Ordering has been a bit slow. I have been trying to make sure people know it'll be free soon. Hopefully, people are waiting for the opportunity to download it for free later this month.
P.S.. Can any Italians fill me in on the dozen ebook orders from Amazon Italy in mid-July? If there's a mini book club, I would absolutely Teams call and say hello. For now, I'll pick up an Italian red and toast in your honour.
The ugly
I sent a few queries out recently for my OG project and realised there were a few editing issues. I think I made a mistake or had an issue with a tracked changes acceptance, or had a version mix-up. The cringe is real. Dear agents, I am deeply horrifically sorry.
The project is cursed. This is a sign to put it on the back-burner and maybe come back to it one day.
Sometimes I wonder whether I should use AI to look for little editing mistakes, like I would in my day job, but this is probably a good life lesson. I have become too complacent on machines, and need to brush up on my own ability to read what's in front of me (and not what I think is there).
Bonus content
It has been a strong week for writing, and I Renegades is at about 20k words, now. Most of that is Chapter 1, which is at roughly 10k words. Several thousand words will probably be culled as I continue going, but it's nice to be in the flow.
Air Superiority introduced Xavier and the Corvids. Compromised introduced Nikolay. Renegades will introduce a very cool Arbiter and a Thai intelligence unit.
I haven't thought of a nickname for the Thai intelligence unit, yet. I am open to suggestions!

Final note
I feel self-conscious writing a blog where I know there are few readers. It can feel uncomfortable publishing figures that are hardly "best seller". I do it, anyway, because it is important to do things that make us uncomfortable - it is how we grow.
Algorithm bias means I rarely see people like me. I hope my openness helps another current or future self-published author out there.
